Snorkeling is one of the best parts of a Nusa Penida trip. You can join a shared boat with other guests, or take a boat for your group only. Here is how to choose.
The short answer
- A shared boat is the cheapest way to snorkel, from IDR 225,000 per person.
- A private boat costs more for small groups, but the difference gets small from about 4 people.
- Snorkeling equipment and a life jacket are included in both.
1. The shared boat
You join other guests on one boat. The usual spots are Manta Bay, Crystal Bay, Gamat Bay and Wall Point. It suits couples, solo travellers and anyone watching the budget.
If you are already staying on Nusa Penida, you can book snorkeling only for IDR 225,000 per person. Coming from Bali for the day, choose the West Tour with snorkeling.
2. The private boat
The boat is for your group only, so you are not waiting for other guests and the day moves at your pace. It suits families, friends travelling together and anyone who prefers a quieter boat.
3. What the difference costs
Here is the price per person for the West Tour with shared snorkeling compared with the West Tour with a private boat, for international passports:
For a couple the private boat is a big step up. For a group of 4 or more, the extra cost per person is small, and many groups find it worth it.
4. Good to know
- Mask, fins and a life jacket are included, so you do not need to be a strong swimmer.
- Manta rays are wild animals. They are often seen at Manta Bay, but a sighting is never guaranteed.
- The crew decides on the day which spots are safe, depending on the sea.
