Many visitors mix up Manta Bay and Manta Point. They are two different places, and it matters which one your trip goes to.
The short answer
- Our snorkeling trips go to Manta Bay.
- Manta Point is a different spot, mostly visited on scuba diving trips.
- Manta rays are wild, so sightings are likely but never guaranteed.
1. Manta Bay
Manta Bay is the spot on our snorkeling trips. Manta rays often come here to feed, and you watch them from the surface with mask and fins. The same boat trip also stops at Crystal Bay, Gamat Bay and Wall Point for reef snorkeling.
2. Manta Point
Manta Point is a separate place. It is known mostly as a dive site, and it is usually visited by dive boats on scuba trips. If you see a snorkeling offer for Manta Point, check exactly where the boat goes.
3. Tips for swimming with mantas
- Keep your distance and never touch a manta.
- Stay calm at the surface and let them pass by.
- Wear the life jacket if the sea is choppy or you are not a confident swimmer.
- Use reef-safe sunscreen, or a rash guard instead.
4. How to book
Snorkeling only, for guests already on Nusa Penida, is IDR 225,000 per person. Coming from Bali, the West Tour with snorkeling includes the boat, car, lunch, tickets and the snorkeling trip in one price. Not sure which boat to take? Read Shared or Private Snorkeling Boat.
