Kelingking Beach is the most famous view on Nusa Penida. Most visitors enjoy it from the top. Some decide to walk all the way down to the sand. Here is what that involves.
The short answer
- The viewpoint at the top is a short, easy walk. Everyone can do it.
- The path down to the beach is steep and tiring, and it takes a good part of your day.
- Only go down in dry weather, with good shoes and plenty of water.
1. The viewpoint
From the parking area it is a short walk to the famous view of the cliff above the white beach. This is where most photos are taken, and it is part of every West Tour.
2. The hike down
The path follows the ridge down to the beach. It is steep, with uneven steps and loose parts, and the climb back up is the hard part, in full sun. Plan well over an hour for the round trip, and more if you want time on the beach.
- Wear shoes with grip. Flip-flops are not suitable.
- Bring water. There is little shade on the way.
- Do not go down after rain, when the path is slippery.
- Take your time and let others pass.
3. Swimming at the bottom
The waves at Kelingking Beach are strong, and the beach faces the open ocean. Enjoy the sand and the view, and be very careful in the water. Crystal Bay is a much better place for a swim.
4. A tour with time for the hike
On a normal West Tour there is time for the viewpoint, not for the hike. Our West Adventure tour is built around it: time to walk down at Kelingking, then swimming and relaxing at Crystal Bay. The Kelingking entrance ticket is IDR 25,000 per person and is included in our tours.
