Nusa Penida can be visited all year. The season, the sea and the time of day all change what your trip feels like.
The short answer
- The dry season, roughly April to October, usually has the most sunshine.
- In the rainy season, roughly November to March, showers often come in the afternoon.
- The busiest weeks are the July and August holidays and Christmas to New Year.
- An early boat brings you to the viewpoints before the busiest hours.
1. Dry season
From about April to October the weather is usually sunny and the paths are dry, which is good for viewpoints and for the Kelingking hike. This is also the most popular time, so book a few days ahead.
2. Rainy season
From about November to March there is more rain, often as a shower in the afternoon rather than all day. The island is greener and quieter. Plan the viewpoints for the morning and keep the afternoon flexible.
3. The sea and the fast boat
Boats can be delayed or rescheduled when the sea is rough, in any month. Boat times can change with sea conditions, and we tell you on WhatsApp if your departure moves. If you have a flight the same evening, leave plenty of time after your return boat.
4. The best time of day
The early boats from Sanur at 06.30, 07.00 and 07.30 get you to the first viewpoint before the busiest hours. Light is softer in the morning too, which is good for photos.
5. Busy dates
- July and August, during the summer holidays.
- Christmas to New Year.
- Long weekends and Indonesian public holidays.
